Who tradtionally gives the wedding toast?

Wedding toasts are the traditional way to honor the bride and groom and have become as much a part of the wedding reception as the bouquet toss.

When planning your reception seating charts you should plan on certain people giving toasts.  Although anyone who is close to the newlyweds may want to make a toast it's traditional for certain individuals to do so.

For example:

  • The best man
  • The father of the bride
  • The father of the groom
  • The maid of honor or matron of honor
  • The mother of the bride and groom
  • Bridesmaids
  • Groomsmen

Newlyweds should also prepare to say something to each other and to their guests.

It's wise to know in advance who plans on toasting the newlyweds so that your caterer may plan the serving of drinks, dinner and/or dessert at the proper times.
